  • Illustrations: 210 woodcut emblems after designs of Geeraard Jansen van Kampen, ranging in subject matter from classical mythology to botany. They were likely excised from the 1589 edition printed by Jean Richer in Paris and affixed to the leaves of the bound volume.
  • Provenance: Purchased from Les Enluminures, 5 October 2020; formerly owned by Karl-Ludwig Selig (1926-2012).

  • Imperfections: Missing the second woodcut of a bat (n. 62); woodcut n. 150 has been partially reconstructed in ink, with added animal decoration probably taken from the upper border of one of the woodcuts; woodcut n. 151 top portion has been reconstructed using a piece of another copy of the same woodcut (which includes some remnants of the left decorative frame. The order of the last woodcuts is somewhat shuffled, as several woodcuts do not match the corresponding captions: caption 203 reads "el membrillo" (quince), but the woodcut represents an ivy; caption 204 reads "la yedra" (ivy), but the woodcut represents a quince tree; caption 205 reads "la coscoja" (kermes oak), but the woodcut represents an orange tree; caption 206 reads "el naranjo" (orange tree), but the woodcut represents a kermes oak; caption 208 reads "el almendro" (almond tree), but the woodcut represents a laurel; caption 209 reads "el moral" (mulberry), but the woodcut represents an almond tree; caption 210 reads "el alamo blanco" (silver poplar), but the woodcut represents a mulberry; caption 210b reads "el laurel" (laurel), but the woodcut represents a silver poplar.
